National Picnic Week

FareShare is an Official Partner of National Picnic Week 2018

FareShare is the UK’s largest food redistribution charity. They save nearly 17,000 tonnes of good surplus food from right across the food supply chain and redistribute it to nearly 10,000 charities and community groups across the UK via their 21 Regional Centres. These charities provide meals as part of their services to people in need – such as children’s breakfast clubs, day clubs for older people, domestic violence refuges, homeless shelters and drug and alcohol rehab units. In 2017/18 they provided enough food for over 36 million meals (worth over £28 million to the charity sector in savings), which helped to feed over 770,000 people every week.
1 in 8 people in the UK is experiencing food poverty and yet every year, at least 270,000 tonnes of good food is wasted in food production.
FareShare is a UK wide charity fighting hunger and food waste. They redistribute good food that would otherwise go to waste to frontline charities and community groups that support vulnerable people.
By ensuring good food is not wasted they turn an environmental problem into a social solution. For more than 24 years FareShare has been working with the food industry to identify quality, in date surplus food that can be redistributed to charities. FareShare reaches over 1,300 towns and cities, providing food for 28.6 million meals a year and supporting 484,376 people every week. The 6,723 charities that receive food through FareShare provide a lifeline to vulnerable people, including homeless hostels, children’s breakfast clubs and lunch clubs for older people.

By receiving food through FareShare, these organisations are better able to provide nutritious meals alongside lifechanging support to help people get back on their feet.
